MUSICAL NOTES
Monday Morning Percy Granger
It’s the dog days (if you’re in the northern hemisphere). It’s Monday (if you’re employed). And Bush is still president. Need a quick lift? Here’s a little audible heroin for you: Percy Granger’s “ Country Gardens ” for two pianos, or four hands, or four pianos played by one hand each: can’t quite figure that one out. Either way, it’s the duo delight of Penelope Thwaites and John Lavender playing what, to Percy, was Elvis’ “Teddy Bear”—a hit so big every seventy-seven year old woman wanted to have his babies.
